Goldschmidt2020 was held online from June 21st to 26th 2020. The conference gathered geoscientists from all over the world to share the frontiers of the geochemistry and cosmochemistry. Professor Qunke Xia, Can Rao, ZJU100 Young Professor Baohua Zhang, Jia Liu, Associate Professor Yantao Hao, Yan Yang and 7 graduate students participated in the conference and attended the sessions Deep Volatiles (02d), Earth’s Volatile Cycles within the Crust-Mantle System: A Session in Honor of Dave Hilton (03c), Examining Mantle Sources and Magmatic Processes Through the Geochemistry of Intraplate and Hotspot Magmas (03d), Mantle formation and evolution from lithosphere to deep mantle (03g), Mantle Structure and Composition: The View from Intraplate Volcanism (05f), Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Mineral-Fluid-Melt Interactions in the Global Element Cycling (07a), Mineral Crystallization, Aggregation, and Dissolution (07c) respectively.

As one of the conveners, Professor Qunke Xia successfully summoned the session Deep Volatiles (02d). Master student Hao Sun was invited to give the talk “Compositional Variation of Large Igneous Provinces Moderated by Water in Mantle Plumes” in the session 03g,PhD candidate Wendi Liu presented her research “Effects of Ammonium on Hydroxyl and Lattice Stability of Phengite at High Temperature and High Pressure ” in the session02d,PhD candidate Jiaqi Sun gave an oral presentation on “The effect of Fe on Stability of Hydrogen Defects in Rutile ” in the session 07a,Master student Weihua Huang presented his research “Stability of Ammonium in Feldspar at High Temperatures: implications for Nitrogen Preservation and Transport in the Deep Earth” in the session 03c.
Goldschmidt conference is the foremost annual, international conference on geochemistry and related subjects, organized by the European Association of Geochemistry and the Geochemical Society. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Goldschmidt2020 became the first virtual edition of the conference.
