In order to broaden students' international vision, foster students' academic development and improve their learning skills, a study abroad experience sharing session for undergraduates of Atmospheric Sciences was held on the evening of April 22. SHU Shoujuan, Deputy Head of Department of Atmospheric Sciences, and DAI Panxi, Associate Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, attended this sharing session. Several senior students majoring in Atmospheric sciences from the class of 2020 were invited to share their valuable experiences, and other students actively participated.
Based on their personal experiences, three students shared their scientific research processes in college, introduced study abroad related issues in detail from the aspects of study abroad prospects, employment situation, preferential policies, time arrangement, and overview of common study abroad countries. They also helped other students to understand the professional terminology involved in the application for study abroad. The detailed explanation of different countries' application timelines, academic score requirements, tuition fees and academic systems offered students a wide range of comprehensive and high-quality study abroad choices.
Senior students suggested that a scientific research plan should be established throughout the four years of college to prepare for studying abroad. Here are some of the share from one of the students: In the freshman year, I joined the tutorial research group to understand the research direction and build a solid mathematical foundation; In the sophomore year, I applied for SRTP research projects and tried to participate in academic conferences to expand my vision; At the same time, you can begin to prepare for IELTS, TOEFL and other language tests; Before the summer of junior year, we can pay more attention to various domestic and international summer research projects to lay the foundation for studying abroad; In the first half of the senior year, prepare to apply for studying abroad, you can apply for several schools to improve the admission possibility
During the interactive session, students took the initiative to ask questions, and the seniors answered with patience and in detail, encouraging the younger students to actively prepare for their development plans. Finally, Dr. Shu, the department head, encouraged the students to study diligently and to set long-term goals. She emphasized the importance of utilizing the path of studying abroad to improve oneself, and wished the students success in their ideal countries, embarking on new journeys.
The successful holding of this sharing session provided undergraduate students of Department of Atmospheric Sciences with a more intuitive and profound understanding of the relevant policies and selection processes related to study abroad program. It also served as a solid step for the Department to promote more outstanding students to pursue further studies at first-class international universities , fostering the development of globally competative talent.
